2021 Planning Guide
The year 2020 is coming to an end, and we’re pretty sure that many people have started to plan for 2021. But before we begin planning for our best year yet, let’s do some foundational work to figure out what exactly we need accomplish. We all know what we should do—there’s no shortage of social media connections and advertisements telling us that—but what about the intentions and goals that are based upon the person that you know you want to be, not what you think you should do?
We believe that we all should focus our energy to become and live authentic and intentional lives, rather than have a long list of goals that are not going to help us or that we don’t intent to accomplish. For that reason, we’re going to share with you a 3 step plan that will help you set the foundation and begin planning for a year full of success and intentionality. So, let’s begin…
1. Reflect on your past mistakes and successes
So many things happened, specially in this year. It’s important to take some time to pause and reflect on the year that you’ve had. What stands out to you the most? Which areas were difficult? Which ones rewarding? What did you learn from the challenges? What mistakes did you do? What did you learn from them? How this year changed you? Do you have the same or a different perspective of life and circumstances? What accomplishments are you most proud of? What were some of your best moments? Your worst ones? What worked—and what didn’t? How did you grow this year?
Much of what happens throughout the year helps to shape what will happen in the next and it’s important to be able to accept the year for what it was. All the challenges we all faced offer us a new way to look at things and there’s always a possibility to learn from our or other person’s mistakes. Being able to forgive and move forward, and celebrating those achievements and things that you’re especially proud of will give you a chance to fully assess the year that almost ends and start the new one in a more positive tone.
2. Identify what matters
The next step is to identify your strengths, your passions and what do you value the most. If you do this, it’s going to be easier for you to set your goals in the next step.
-We all have areas that are stronger than others. This areas or qualities are your drivers that are going to help you build solid relationships, accomplish goals, build your career and keep you focused in life.
-Ask yourself: what are my gifts?
-Your passions help you stay excited and motivated while you’re pursuing your goals. They’re an important factor while you’re doing great things in your life.
-Ask yourself: What do I really love and enjoy doing?
- My Values
-Your values always will help you see clearly what’s really important to you and keep you focused on what you believe.
-Ask yourself: What will I choose to focus on 2021? What’s going to be a priority for me in the new year?
3. Set your goals!
If you did the first step, now it’s time to set your 2021 goals! Start by thinking about the areas of your life that you want to focus on. You can use the example below.
- Spiritual Life
Your relationship with God. Your spiritual life.
- Personal Goals
This includes your health and personal growth. Prioritize your health and happiness.
- Relationships Goals
Your relationship with your family and friends.
- Purpose Goals
Career, business, job, community. Never stop growing and contributing.
- Financial Goals
Your money spent wisely.
Give yourself some time and grace to do all this planning. Remember that our goals and priorities change year by year, so think carefully about how you want the new year to be.
